Tutoring

Tutoring

One student, once a week, for one hour - one-on-one tutoring changes lives. Tutoring raises literacy rates, increases SAT scores, and dramatically affects the confidence and self-esteem of the student. The CARE Center has 3 established tutoring programs at New Hope Elementary, Owens Cross Roads Elementary, and Madison County Elementary. CARE Center Christmas Store

CARE Center Christmas Store

The CARE Center Christmas Store provides an opportunity for parents we serve to purchase Christmas gifts at a greatly reduced price. Donations of new toys for children of all ages will enable the CARE Center to sell toys to parents who can afford to pay a small price while affirming their dignity. Unemployed parents, or those in need, will be allowed to work in the store to earn purchase credits. Christmas Store proceeds will be used to provide funds for various CARE Center ministries and initiatives. NHHS/CARE Center Partnership

NHHS/CARE Center Partnership

The CARE Center continues to make the students at New Hope High School a main focus of their ministry. Through First in Family Scholarships, high school seniors who are the first in their family to attend college have an opportunity to apply for $1,000 college scholarships.

In '10 the CARE Center granted 2 of these scholarships. The CARE Center also partners with NHHS to offer Lunch and Learns. These are designed to be a fun and informal educational tool for the students at NHHS. The goal is to provide an hour of enrichment to the minds of the students on topics of interest while encouraging students to stay in school and graduate. Students were given surveys that asked them questions about their current interests and hobbies, as well any interests they may have for the planning of their futures. The guest speakers are individuals that may have graduated from New Hope, live in the community, work in the area, or just support the schools' goals to excel. Giving their time and resources to a small classroom of students on their lunch break allows them to share their stories with the students, while making good use of everyone's busy schedules. Four students from NHHS successfully went through this program. For more info, contact Tara Furlough at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Summer Camp Sponsorships

Summer Camp Scholarships

The CARE Center sponsored 9 high school youth to attend various Christian based summer camps in ’10. They had the time of their lives and several of those made the decision to accept Christ into their lives. Praise God! The CARE Center also sponsored 12 children to attend a local science based camp called Camp Invention in June ’10. This camp gave the children an opportunity to create, dream, invent, and get excited about learning. For more information, contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. CARE Packs

CARE Packs

This ministry helps provide children with the school supplies they need to have a successful school year. Parents sign-up at the end of the school year, pay $5.00 and register their child by grade/gender. In early August they can come to the CARE Center to pick-up their child's backpack and school supplies. It affirms the parents by requiring them to pay a reduced price for the backpacks and helps the children walk into school with one less barrier so they can focus their energy on learning. Volunteers are matched with a child and fill the backpack with all the needed materials. For more info, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The CARE Center, in partnership with New Hope Elementary, created a state of the art science lab for children in grades k-8th. The purpose of this lab is to increase test scores in science and give students an opportunity to see the possibilities that science can offer. Research demonstrates that science can successfully reach struggling students. An interest in science will also help them excel in reading, writing, and math.
